Mit der Unterstützung der ghanaischen Regierung versuchen in Westafrika besonders die nordamerikanischen Aluminiumkonzerne ALCAN (beteiligt an der Minengesellschaft GBC) und ALCOA (beteiligt an der Aluminiumschmelze VALCO) ihre Aktivitäten zu intensivieren - bei zeitgleich wachsender Kritik seitens der betroffenen Bevölkerung an dem intensiven Bergbau der letzten 20 Jahre.
Supported by the Ghanaian Government it is mainly the two north-american aluminum giants ALCAN (shareholder of the mining company GBC) and ALCOA (shareholder of the smelter VALCO) who are currently trying to intensify their activities in West Africa - while at the same time the local population complains about negative effects of mining and related processes.
